Rachel has been writing fiction and poetry since she was a high school student in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. She studied English writing and English literature at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN. At Saint Mary's, Rachel won the Laurie A. Lesniewski Award for Creative Writing in 2008 and worked as the editor in chief of both Chimes (a literary magazine) and Bellezine (a women's interest magazine) to which she also contributed. She also contributed to and worked on the editorial board of The Juggler (The University of Notre Dame's literary magazine) and The Avenue (a literary nonfiction publication at Saint Mary's College).
After graduating from Saint Mary's College, Rachel spent six months in Cuernavaca, Mexico where she taught English and Business at an international school to students in 7th, 9th and 12th grade. She enjoyed living immersed in the culture of Cuernavaca and spent her free time exploring the surrounding towns during her time there.
When she came home to the United States, Rachel briefly lived in Chicago before returning to Northern Indiana. She has since worked as a Spanish teacher, preschool teacher, and freelance writer. In addition to spending time with her husband, daughter, and pets, Rachel enjoys writing fiction and poetry and blogging about writing. She is working on publishing her first novel, a gothic fantasy.
In June of 2016, Rachel launched Poetry in Form, a publication on Medium dedicated to poetry written in traditional forms. Currently, Poetry in Form has over 30 contributors, over 120 original poems that are written in traditional forms, and about 1.3k followers, with those numbers growing by the day.
